Evergreen Principles in Social Media

RECAP

- Cassie Petrey detailed her journey from being an early adopter of social media platforms like AOL, Myspace, and Facebook, to becoming a Social Media Expert. Her curiosity drove her to self-educate on HTML, web design, and online marketing, gaining her experience at Warner Music Group. Cassie then transitioned to start CrowdSurf, a unique company fostered on strong internal communication and learning which enabled it to navigate the ever-changing industry trends.

- Petrey discussed the evolution of social media, where former gatekeepers have been ousted by algorithms that can both assist and inhibit reach depending on targeting strategy. She offered advice for artists on social media, underscoring the importance of genuine content, consistency, discipline, and the need to balance mental health with social media interactions.

- She recommended artists to start with three platforms considering popularity and to expand their reach with experience. She identified several trending and underutilized platforms, emphasizing the role of websites in enhancing artists' online visibility.

- Petrey also shared her viewpoint on future social media trends, focusing on the crucial advantage of creating authentic content over merely chasing trends. She highlighted the importance of transmuting audiences from passive observers to active supporters and advocated for relatable content creation for increased audience engagement.

- The conversation concluded with insights on managing viral content and how to handle failures. She suggested that viral content not representative of an artist's usual creation should be managed effectively and that reposting content that initially didn't perform well might ensure broader reach. Wrapping up on "challenge trends," Petrey views these as creative templates assisting content creation.
