Merch - Too Dark to See

Heartbreak is Merch’s game. Born in New York City, and spending a very important chunk of his time in Maryland; Merch was heavily influenced by the 808’s & Heartbreak era of music. Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Imogen Heap, and 808’s Kanye are some of Merch’s heaviest influences on this 3rd installment of his ‘Beautiful Before’ anthology. While it’s not as apparent as in his older works, Merch grew up a nerdy black kid in an era where it was nowhere near as cool as it is now. That chip on his shoulder remains on tracks like No More, and Too Dark to See where the witty punchlines and braggadocio confidence has leftover remnants of Childish Gambino’s early days. Adding to that, the production is cinematic, emotion driven, and dark. If on his last project he was ‘Somewhere In The Middle’ - it seems he’s way deeper in it now.
