RECAP
- Maya Jupiter, a multi-talented artist known for her work as a host, musician, and rapper, utilizes her platform for social change through artivism.
- Her artistic roots trace back to a childhood love for dance, which transitioned into hip hop dance and songwriting, influenced by her exposure to commercial hip hop and her mother’s community-oriented values.
- Maya's artivism is conveyed through impactful songs like "Never Said Yes," inspired by the issue of rape culture, focusing on consent, and "Crumble," which addresses the school to prison pipeline. "Madre Tierra" celebrates Mother Earth and women activists, and "The Joy" reflects on the racial challenges faced by black and brown boys.
- She co-founded Artivist Entertainment with five other artists to support socially conscious artists and create events that foster community connections, emphasizing the need for physical spaces that unite communities.
- Maya's innovative approach to advocacy is illustrated by the "Defund the Sheriff" project, a compilation album used to promote her cause amidst advertising challenges.
- She advocates for meaningful communication and accountability, advising on the importance of intentionality in public discourse and the value of being "called out."
- Maya encourages integrating volunteering into daily life by identifying and addressing community needs, suggesting a practical path for those looking to make a difference.
- Her future plans include collaborating with Indigenous artists from Australia to foster cross-cultural connections with Indigenous artists in the US, widening her artivism impact.

Piero - A Great Day in East LA
Goal:
The goal of this exhibit and overall documentation is to recover and share the history of the Eastside Sound as part of the history of Los Angeles. A history of creativity and innovation that has been created by overcoming all sorts of obstacles and neglect to define the sound of Los Angeles. This leads to the ultimate goal: that this history continues to inspire Angelenos and global creatives in the present and future.
Ways People Can Support:
— To be able to have a larger platform so people can learn about this history during the time the exhibit is displayed.
— For people to be able to engage and share this history virtually, throughout social media, apps.
